Optic Nerve Disorders
The optic nerves carry information from the eyes to the brain. Optic nerve disorders can cause abnormal optic nerve appearance, which can be seen during eye examination. Symptoms of optic nerve dysfunction can include blurry vision, spots in the vision and changes in color vision in one or both eyes. Common optic nerve disorders include non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), optic neuritis, optic nerve sheath meningioma, traumatic optic neuropathy and optic nerve involvement by other diseases.
Symptoms can include
- Decreased vision
- Eye pain
- Abnormal color vision

Optic Neuritis
Optic neuritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation in the optic nerve, which sends information from the eye to the brain in order to process what you are seeing.
